When it comes to saving money, a lot of people recommend huge lifestyle changes that seem impossible to make. We all live busy lives, so how can you change all your habits in just a couple of days?

Luckily, there are a few quick and things you can do to save money today…

1. Focus On Your Savings

When you get paid, it’s time to immediately transfer some of your paycheck into your savings account.

There isn’t any point in waiting until the end of the month. By then, you may have made some impulse purchases and spent some money that you’re already regretting. Save that money before you have the chance to spend it!

Know what bills you need to cover with your paycheck. That will give you an idea of how much of your paycheck you can immediately set aside in savings. Or, better yet, arrange automatic transfers to whisk that money off to savings every payday so you never have to remember to transfer money. It’s a fool-proof savings plan!

Having this savings as an emergency fund is incredibly reassuring and something you will always be grateful for.

2. Change Your Accounts

Make sure you talk to your bank about your savings account options. You might be able to switch to an account that has a higher interest rate or some other perks.

Many people just stick with the first bank account they ever opened for the rest of their lives, but that just isn’t a good idea. Different accounts are good for different lifestyles and your banking needs will change as you move through your life. Check out a site like Financial Task Force to get the lowdown on different banks and what they can offer you so you understand the full picture.

3. Save Your Loose Change

Why not start to save your loose change? Take an empty jar, wash it out, and start to drop your loose change in there – it really is that easy.

It builds up surprisingly quickly, and then you can deposit it in the bank and transfer it into your savings account. A lot of the time we tend to throw away our loose change on purchases that we don’t really need, so this is a way to save that money and build it into more.

Losing out on whole dollars to save a few pennies? You're being penny wise and pound foolish!

4. Get Cancelling

Take a look at all the subscriptions that you have, and figure out if you really need them.

If you have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu, do you really need cable as well? In fact, do you really need all those streaming services at all? Work out how often you watch them and, from there, how much you pay for each TV show. You may be surprised at how much each Friends rerun is taking out of your pocket.

There may be other things you can cancel as well. If you’re trying to cut down on online ordering, you may not need Amazon’s Prime delivery service, for example. You might also take a look at your gym membership. Are there any other ways that you could exercise? Running is incredibly popular and requires only a good pair of shoes. Likewise, hiking is a great way to get some cardio in. If you want to get flexible and increase your core strength, you could also try out some yoga at home for free.

5. Cut Down On Your Energy Use

At home, make sure that you start to use less energy so that you can save the planet as well as money. Make sure you turn off lights when you leave a room and set your thermostat so your air conditioning and heating aren’t on for too long. Turn off appliances that are on standby and do your best to make use of natural resources. If you just open the curtains, natural light will stream into the room, heating and lighting it.

6. Check Out Your Local Library

A great way to save money and promote your local resources is to regularly use your local library.

This is a particularly good thing to do if you have kids. Not only will there be a huge range of books for your children to explore and enjoy, but there will also be librarians who can recommend new titles to you and who may even lead story-time sessions for kids.

Taking books out from the library will save you a lot of money if you’re a big bibliophile and you get through a lot of books. Plus, you can also borrow music and movies from your library, as well as making use of their magazine and newspaper subscriptions while you’re there.

Saving money doesn’t have to be arduous.  Take advantage of these tips today and you’ll be able to save more cash in less time!
