There are many good reasons to become a freelancer – you’ll have a lot more freedom, you’ll have more control over what you do, and you won’t have a boss to worry about. In fact, there are probably more reasons to start freelancing than not to, but there is one big issue that’s always going to be there and that you’ll constantly have to contend with: you’re going to need to keep finding new clients.

In an ideal world, those clients will come to you rather than you having to chase them, but that’s not always an easy thing to put in place. If you can do that, they’ll have no reason not to come to you because you can be a one-stop shop that gives them everything they need. 

When we say everything, we really mean it. You’ll want to give your clients plenty of options when it comes to how you can help them in terms of your work, but you’ll also need to put other measures in place, such as ensuring they have various payment options, including credit cards. Build A Strong Portfolio

Your portfolio is your best marketing tool as a freelancer, so make sure it’s the best it can be. Try to include a little bit of everything you do to showcase your talents and versatility so that clients can see instantly that you can help them. 

If you prefer, you can have a range of different portfolios for different things, as this might make it easier to show a client what you can do. If you’re a freelance writer, for example, you might have a portfolio for blog posts, another for product descriptions, and another for short fiction – depending on what you write and the services you sell. 

No matter what way you choose to do it, you’ll need to work on your portfolio and make it really shine; this isn’t something you can just throw together at a moment’s notice if you want it to help sell your services and attract the best clients to your business. 

Use Social Media

Every business owner, whether they’re classed as a freelancer or not, has to advertise their business if they want to attract clients, so you’re going to need to do the same thing. One of the best ways to do it, and one of the cheapest ways (which could even be free), is to use social media. 

You’ll need to carry out some market research to determine where your target audience spends their time – which platform, in other words – but once you know, you can write posts and create ads that will capture their attention.
