I introduced the Sangria of the Month for July by complaining about how friggin hot it is and how insane it is that a first world country like Germany shuns air conditioning.

I’m introducing the Sangria of the Month for August the same way.

It’s over 100 degrees right now in Frankfurt. I’m sitting with an ice pack on my head, a fan blasting in my face, and a cold drink in my hand. And I’m still sweating.

Go to the library you say? LOL, they don’t have AC either!

Check into a hotel? Only the hotels I can’t afford offer AC.

I’m SOL until the heat breaks.

I talked to some of my German friends about this. The general stance is that air conditioning is not only bad for the environment but also not great for humans. Every German I’ve talked to swears AC makes them sick (because of the recycled air or regularly going from hot outside to room-temp inside or both…I should mention that none of us are doctors).

But here’s what kills me: they all say, oh, well this heat isn’t normal for Germany. Uh…it’s been like this the 3 summers I’ve spent here. This is the new normal people! Time to embrace AC before we all roast.

So how am I staying (questionably) sane? Frozen drinks! Which leads us to our sangria of the month for August…
