8 Things To Consider Before You Move Into A New Home

Moving house may be one of the most exciting things you have ever done! But also one of the most stressful.

With so many different things to think about before you can start moving your things to your new home, you want to be as prepared as you can possibly be.

With that in mind, here are 8 things to consider before you move into a new house.

What is your overall budget?

The first thing to think about is the overall budget.

How much it will the new place cost on a monthly basis? How much will the actual move cost?

The best thing to do is think about all of the individual aspects of a house move, getting a variety of different quotes from contractors. Think about van hire, removal men, and the deposit you’ll have to put down to secure the property.

What paperwork do you need to fill out, and when?

Moving always comes with a lot of paperwork. You’ll probably have to complete an application, proof of employment, proof of income, proof of savings, and a final contract. Know what you need and when you need to submit it.

If you want to be even more organized, consider keeping a separate folder with copies of all of the documents you’ve completed.

When do you want to move in?

Once you have worked out your budget and know what paperwork you need to fill out, it’s time to think about the date you want to move in.

While this sounds like an easy decision, based on the date that your lease ends at your current place, some people opt to move a few weeks early to give themselves enough time to move out of their old home.

Think about how much time you need, and whether or not you can afford to move in before your current lease expires.

Do you need to seek any legal advice?

Have you considered the possible legal issues surrounding your move?

For example, you may need the counsel of probate lawyers,  if you’re inheriting a place from a relative. Or you may need advice about having your deposit returned or finding out how to protect your assets during a move.

If you have any legal questions about your move, seek professional advice sooner rather than later.

What area do you want to live in?

Are you a city girl? Or a country girl?

Do you want sprawling gardens or cool balconies?

If you haven’t already chosen your perfect area, spend some time considering the pros and cons of each neighborhood on your shortlist.

Pay special attention to your commute. It may cost more to live near work, but you could also save an hour or two every workday by living nearby.

Saving for a down payment on a house can be super daunting. That down payment amount might seem impossible, but with our simple plan you can make it happen!

What local amenities are there? Which are most important to you?

When looking at potential areas, consider the amenities you need nearby.

Do you need a school for your children? Do you need a store within walking distance? Does it need to be easily accessible from a city? Does it need to family-friendly and community-built?

Thinking about all these things beforehand will help you make the best choice when it comes to choosing the location of your new home.

Does the house require any work?

Another thing you need to consider is whether or not the house needs any work.

If you’re renting the property, you need to check whether or not the estate agents and landlord are going to complete the work. And if you’re buying, you need to fund that work yourself.

If the house requires a lot of work, you may want to consider getting it finished before you move in. Check out this guide to renovating your new home. It may take some time, but it will be nice to have a home that perfectly suits you.

Do you need to hire a moving service to help you move?

Finally, you need to think about whether or not you need to hire a moving service when you move.

While a lot of people are able to move themselves, using either their car or a hired van, having a moving team is one of the best ways to ensure the process goes as smoothly as it possibly can.

They will be able to help you pack up your belongings, taking them safely from one destination to another. When they arrive at your new home, they’ll bring all of your belongings into the right rooms – leaving you with nothing to do but unpack!

Moving is never easy, but hiring movers is a great way to make your move as stress-free as it can possibly be.
