I used one of those internet car vendors to buy my last car. It was a three year old version of what was originally a pricey sporty small SUV. By getting a low mileage used car I got it for about half of the original sticker price. Also this company had a fairly thorough vetting process in which only single owner cars that had never been in an accident were listed. I did not get to drive it first but after I wired them the money they delivered the car to my location. It was in perfect condition and I’ve been very pleased at both the several thousands of dollars I saved and not having to haggle and visit dealerships.

I wonder if the advantage of being near a school will fade some as the US birth rates continue to decline and as millennials forgo marriage and kids in greater numbers than previous generations?

The strangest thing about the work life balance debate is that almost every single famous person in politics, business or even in nonprofits totally lacks work life balance. A Fortune 500 CEO can’t really have a balanced life, he has to work 80 hours a week to hold that position. I was a lobbyist and I can assure you a senator in DC works crazy hours and has very little choice in the matter. Even the CEO of an organization like the Red Cross or United Way leads a work dominated life. I know because when you hire someone that you are going to pay millions of dollars a year you expect them to put their work ahead of everything else. Almost every famous person is unbalanced and neglects parts of their lives that most people feel are important. Think about a successful college football coach, they do not even see their families for months on end. Its so odd that we see the danger of a singleminded focus in life yet we reward it so highly financially. I’m sure there is a big truth in that thought, but I can’t express it.

It’s interesting to learn that a landlord will expect you to pay the first month’s rent in full on the day you move in. My wife and I are wanting to move to an apartment and we were wondering what we should be prepared for in the renting experience.
